The third season begins several months after the group escaped the
farm, with Lori far into her pregnancy. Rick and the group come upon a
deserted prison, hoping for it to be their safe haven. While searching
the prison for supplies, Hershel is bitten by a walker and Rick is
forced to amputate his leg. During this, they meet a new group of
survivors, who are prison inmates. In exchange for food, they clear out a
different cell block for where the inmates can reside, away from Rick's
group. When a hoard of walkers attack the prison, the group is split up
and T-Dog is bitten by a walker and sacrifices his life to save Carol.
Lori goes into labor, and insists they do a C-section to save the baby,
much to the displease of Maggie and Carl. Maggie then cuts open Lori to
save the baby, resulting in Lori's death. Carl is forced shoot Lori to
prevent her from coming back as a walker. They all regroup outside,
where Rick sees his baby and learns that Lori is dead.
Michonne
and Andrea are taken to the town of Woodbury, a safe haven from the
walkers. They meet the Governor, who runs the town, as well as learn
that Merle has taken refuge in Woodbury. Merle wants information from
Andrea, so he can find his brother Daryl. Meanwhile, the Governor has a
man named Milton study the walkers.
